Essential Acupuncture Flashcards (2nd edition)

This deck contains 171 essential points from the 12 Primary channels, Du & Ren (160 cards). Each card is laminated on the back (so that they don’t get dirtied on cafe tables) but not on the front (so that you can add your own notes to them)

Each card graphically and textually provides a wealth of information:

  • Colour-coded borders based on the channel element
  • Information pertaining to the Primary channel: element, Yin/Yang, Organ Clock time
  • Information pertaining to the 6 Division pairings: Name, Pathogen
  • A list of point categories with corresponding icons
  • A list of major actions
  • A list of major indications
  • Point location description and a drawn diagram (on the majority of cards)
  • A sturdy box – just throw the cards into your bag and don’t worry about damage!

Improvements

Based on the feedback from the customers who have bought the previous version of the cards, I have made the following improvements:

  • Rounded corners (to avoid dog-ears)
  • Pinyin added for Chinese language enthusiasts
  • More cards added, namely the missing Xi-Clefts
  • Quick reference for Back Shu points on a handy single card

How did it start?

Thank you for your interest in these Point Flashcards! I started to collate them during my study of Acupuncture at the Xian Tian College of Chinese Medicine, and found my old scribbled cards an invaluable resource, always carrying them with me for reviewing, exploring, stimulating thought. Having since tidied them up, topped up with more details on Actions and Indications, I hope they will be as useful learning tool to you as they still are to me!

I owe a great deal of appreciation to Damo and Rob, both amazing teachers who not only generously shared their vast knowledge of Chinese Medicine theory, but also inspired and enouraged us all the way.

I’ve done my utmost to stay true to the information given in the course, and I take full accountability for any typos, grammatical errors, or other oversights. I wish you the very best in your pursuit of this fascinating art!

Known errors

Despite many efforts to get the cards as perfect as possible, some errors have sneaked past the scrutiny. Please feel free to correct them on your own cards!

Second edition:

  • In my enthusiasm to add the “Spine reference” card last-minute to the deck, it’s gone in to print with an error. The top of the illiac crest is inline with the L4 vertebra, not L3 as is shown on the card.

First edition:

  • Stomach channel has a “Hand” graphic in the bottom bar, and should have the “Leg” graphic for the Yang-Ming division
  • Ren and Du – Yin / Yang symbols in the top bar should be black for Yin, and white for Yang
